Ammonia

What are the options for companies still using R22?

R22 belongs to the hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerants (HCFCs), which are subjected to different legislations since the Montreal Protocol. Since January 1st, 2015, the European Regulation EC/2037/2000 – amended by the EC/1005/2009 Regulation – makes it illegal to use recycled or reclaimed HCFCs to service refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.

Let’s ‘make ammonia great again’

Stefan Jensen, managing director of low-charge ammonia system manufacturer Scantec, told ATMO Australia 2017 about his hopes for more compact ammonia systems that can work in air conditioning, supermarkets and commercial refrigeration.

International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration’s Resources for Using NH3 and CO2

Eric Smith and Dave Sainato from the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR) will discuss the IIAR’s scope and mission. This will include the development of guidelines and standards, research projects, and other efforts that should benefit the application of small charge ammonia systems and CO2 systems. They will discuss the perceived benefits and detractions of using ammonia as a primary refrigerant as well as IIAR’s efforts in code development, education and international outreach.
