Promoting climate friendly ways to cool down
In countries with high ambient temperatures, air-conditioning is not a luxury: it is a necessity. In 2013, the project, “Promoting low global warming potential refrigerants for air-conditioning sectors in high ambient temperature countries (PRAHA)” was approved by the Multilateral Fund with UNIDO and UNEP as the implementing agencies.
Through purpose built prototypes for various low-GWP alternatives and subsequent testing at high ambient temperature conditions, it became clear that a full product redesign would be necessary, and that the related components needs to be fully developed and made commercially available. PRAHA has become a committed, ongoing process. PRAHA I triggered a number of new international studies. The beneficiary countries, together with UNIDO and UNEP, are continuing to work towards a solution in PRAHA II.
