France to impose tax on HFCs
The French government looks set to follow fellow European member Spain in imposing taxes on HFC refrigerants.
French environment minister Nicolas Hulot announced the government’s intention to increase the price of carbon as part of France’s Climate Plan revealed this week, and said that the tax would be extended to include HFC refrigerants.
The minister did not indicate a specific amount but French magazine Revue Pratique du Froid (RPF) referenced a confidential document from the new French administration that suggested a price of €30.5MTCO2e. This would add a levy of around €120/kg on high GWP refrigerant R404A.
