Daikin R1234ze chiller boost for CERN

Daikin has recently been involved in the commissioning of three water-cooled R1234ze chiller units at CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research and home of the Large Hadron Collider.

The three EWWH-VZ chillers with screw inverter compressor provide a total cooling capacity of 2,220kW, including 740kW for redundancy.

They were installed in Building 141 at the facility in Geneva to provide cooling for power converters and power supplies of the Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) and the Proton Synchrotron accelerators (PS), which are key components in CERN’s accelerator complex.

Daikin’s VZ series chillers were said to perfectly meet CERN’s need for an energy efficient solution and absolute reliability. This was achieved by the chiller’s inverter single screw compressor technology, which can guarantee exceptionally high efficiency levels, especially when the units are operating at partial loads.
