Chemours commences YF production at Ingleside
Production of the low GWP HFO refrigerant R1234yf has started at Chemours’ Corpus Christi manufacturing plant in Ingleside, Texas.
The new plant will triple Chemours global capacity for 1234yf, the refrigerant recognised as the global replacement for R134a in automotive air conditioning. The final phase of a $300m project started in 2016, it is the largest such facility in the world.
Marketed by Chemours as Opteon YF, R1234yf is also a crucial component in a number of blends for stationary air conditioning and refrigeration applications. This includes the Chemours blend R449A, one of the leading retrofit gases for R404A/R507.
“Our US facility reinforces our commitment to meet the needs of our mobile and stationary refrigerant customers through unmatched capacity, capability, and quality,” said Chemours Fluoroproducts president Paul Kirsch. “This also means our production facilities will be closer to our customers in North America and Europe, as well as around the world.”
