Carel controls move away from R404A

Carel has reported an intense period of activity in northern Europe as end users move away from R404A.

The Italian controls manufacturer has been involved in new CO2 systems installed in Finland and Iceland in recent weeks.

In Iceland, Carel Nordic helped develop the first fully CO2 supermarket with CAREL solutions: included in the installation are pRack300T and MPXPro control systems, leak detectors and a PlantVisorPRO supervisor, all serving three compressor racks, 11 cold rooms (two low temperature), and 22 medium and low temperature cabinets.

In Finland, Carel Nordic worked alongside EPTA Finland in the installation at the S-market Tikkula supermarket in Pori. The work entailed replacing the old R404A refrigeration system with a new system running on CO2.

All the cabinets and cold rooms were replaced or rebuilt to use the new CO2 systems.

In total, the installation comprises 19 room evaporators, 55 case evaporators and medium and low temperature cabinets. All managed by Carel’s MPXPro control system.

“This is a very intense period in northern Europe: new international rules are leading to the replacement of old refrigerants,” commented Michael Aarup, technical sales manager at Carel Nordic.
