ASHRAE to modify A2L safety standard
With the US facing restrictions on higher GWP refrigerants, ASHRAE is looking to modify its safety standard to incorporate “mildly flammable” A2L gases.
ASHRAE is seeking industry input into a proposal to modify portions of ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 15-2013, Safety Standard for Refrigeration Systems, to overcome the current application limitations to the adoption of these low GWP refrigerants.
The 2010 edition of ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 34-2013, Designation and Safety Classification of Refrigerants, added an optional Subclass 2L to the existing Class 2 flammability classification of refrigerants.
